What we can do for Japanese art past and present

I believe that Japanese culture, and particularly Japanese-style painting, is world-class. To convey Japanese-style painting to future generations, it is critical to pass on painting techniques as well as preservation and restoration methods. It is also important not only to maintain Japanese traditional culture but at the same time to foster new cultural genres. One such genre that has the potential to develop as a new form of Japanese culture is Japanese cinema. To maintain and develop Japanese culture into the future, it is essential to support and educate the people capable of fostering this new culture. The Housen Cultural Foundation was therefore established to support universities and graduate schools, the education institutions that make this happen. Takeko Shizuka
